Committed to the EMS Industry, Expanding to Deliver

It’s an exciting time of expansion here at Braun Industries. For over forty years, we’ve been serving the EMS industry by manufacturing quality, custom ambulances that are “Built for Life.” As the market changes and demand increases, we have made a significant investment in our business to keep pace. We are focused on maintaining our reputation in the industry as a leading ambulance manufacturer producing the “Mercedes” of ambulances. We have strategically grown our company to adapt to the new climate and to continue to build some of the best emergency vehicles on the road.

The financial crisis of 2007 to 2010 impacted many organizations and their ability to purchase needed vehicles and equipment. The road to recovery has been slow, but contracts and pent up demand from the economic decline are now forcing ambulance manufacturers to step up production and deliver. At Braun, we’ve grown our workforce by creating new jobs and hiring 50 employees in the past year. This, combined with production arrangements for enhanced efficiency and shorter cycle time, have allowed us to increase output by 40%!

To better serve customers old and new, we have also expanded our dealer network by adding new territories and helping our existing dealerships grow. This will provide more access to the Braun product, as well as enhanced service center locations. One such example is the addition of our Direct Sales Representative, Jerry Jones, for the Western US. Jerry is based in Utah, representing the Braun brand in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and Southern California. He has extensive sales experience in the emergency vehicle industry, and has also been on the buying side of emergency vehicle purchases.

Our strategic direction for sustainable growth and our investment over the past several years has also improved our brand awareness. With more focus on safety than ever before, Braun has a distinct advantage over other ambulance manufacturers. We have experienced strong customer demand and support of our product, since patient and crew well-being is a primary focus in the design and build of our units. Braun ambulances have become synonymous with safety, quality, and innovation.

President, Kim Braun, has the following to say about our recent growth and expansion:

“The Braun name represents a premium product in the emergency vehicle industry. Our vision is centered on sustainable growth and a direction that continuously improves the quality of our product, the passion within our people, the integrity of our decisions, and the long-term relationships that make us successful.”

As we wrap up 2013, we are focused on the future. We are planning for continuous, sustainable growth to meet the ever-increasing demands of the EMS industry. We are launching new products, such as The Responder and the EZ O2 Lift, and listening to customer feedback to improve existing models. We look forward to another 40 years as a top-innovator in ambulance design and manufacturing.

Central EMS and the Braun Express Ambulance

Feedback from our end customers is a critical component to our continual improvement process at Braun Industries. We have implemented follow up measures in our delivery process to survey our customers, and we often seize the opportunity to talk with them one-on-one about their experiences working with Braun. During a recent visit to our plant, we had the pleasure of speaking with Steve Harrison, Assistant Chief of the Washington County Regional Ambulance Authority.

Acting as an Inter-Local Agreement for Ambulance Service, the Washington County Regional Ambulance Authority is responsible for Central EMS. Central EMS is owned and operated by the communities it serves, and is one of the leading ambulance services in Northwest Arkansas. They are the only National Academy of Emergency Dispatch Accredited 911 center in the state, allowing them to provide quality emergency medical instruction to callers before first responders arrive on scene. They most commonly respond to general medical related emergencies, wheel chair transport requests, and inter-facility transport requests.

In total, Central EMS operates 16 Braun ambulances in their fleet. All units are the Braun Express model. Having been a Braun customer for over 7 years, they continue to come back because our sales and service team is responsive and always available to speak with.

As with many of our customers, Central EMS chose Braun due to our unique SolidBody™ Construction. In our construction process, the ambulance module is built as one integrated box from .125” flat-sheet piece of marine grade aluminum. All components are constructed from brake formed parts with fully welded seams, including the floor, roof, sides and doors. The result is a module with no separate extruded frame, which creates a safer, stronger, lighter box.

While the organization was originally concerned about the cost of a Braun, they found out they were able to get everything they desired in their ambulances at an affordable price. They chose the Braun Express model in particular because it is easily modified to accommodate their custom requests. Furthermore, the unit provides the space they desired for adequate equipment storage and patient and crew work space. The reliability of the Express also keeps them up and running, and offers minimal downtime in the event that a repair or maintenance is needed.

Assistance Chief, Steve Harrison, has the following to say about the organization’s Braun ambulances: “Our staff really likes working in these units. They feel safe, and have plenty of space to provide patient care.”

Thank you for your continued support of the Braun brand Central EMS. We love serving you as a customer!

Braun To Host Annual Service Technician Training

Annually, our service department hosts a service technician training course. This year, it will be held October 22nd through 24th in Van Wert, Ohio. The first two days will be classroom sessions, and the third day will be held in the factory at Braun’s headquarters. There, technicians will receive an in-depth tour of the manufacturing plant and spend time observing in a production area of their choice to enhance their knowledge on our products and build process.

This educational opportunity is made available with the help of various vendors. Currently, the following companies have committed to teaching at this year’s course:

Each vendor will be represented by a member from their Service Department, not their Sales Department. These individuals possess the hands-on experience and knowledge to properly inform class participants on how to maintain their products.

Vendor presentations have been extremely well received in the past. This year, we are integrating customized troubleshooting clinics from the component manufacturers into the course. “The Techs will learn how the module is manufactured and how components are installed to further aid their abilities to perform efficient, effective repairs,” says Jeff Holtzclaw, Service Manager at Braun Industries.

Members of Braun’s Service Department will also be presenting. We are most looking forward to a session from our Electrical Engineer, Brian Holbrooks. Brain is responsible for creating the unit programming and troubleshooting on the production floor prior to delivery. His involvement with service in the factory should provide for an enlightening discussion with attendees. Combined with the Real-time Diagnostics Training (RDT) on new and used ambulances to closely similar real life situations in the field, course participants are sure to learn many new skills to take home with them.

Service technicians from around the country are planning to join us this year. We are anticipating 50 technicians in attendance. For those that can’t join us this year, the dates have already been set for our 2014 course. Mark your calendars now for October 21-23, 2014!

As a manufacturer, our dealer network is critical to our success in the EMS industry. With their help, we are able to reach customers around the country and deliver Braun ambulances to locations big and small. Each year, we gather them together for our Annual Sales Meeting to energize them about the brand, introduce new products, and catch up with some good old fashioned networking. This year, it was held October 1st and 2nd, at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne, IN.

In attendance were over 50 dealer principles and sales representatives from our dealer network. This year, the highlights included a “State of the Company” address presented by Braun’s President, Kim Braun. She discussed who we are as a company and where we’re going. 2013 “EMT of the Year” Honored at EMS World Expo

NAEMT-Award-Winner

Last week, Braun representatives had the pleasure of attending EMS World Expo 2013. It is a special event for us as a manufacturer. There, we are honored to sponsor the NAEMT EMT of the Year Award, which is presented during the opening ceremonies. This year, the award was given to Paul Schueth, Adv EMT, from Winner, South Dakota.

Chad Brown was on hand to present the award to Paul. Paul is a deserving individual, currently serving as an Advanced EMT with Tripp County Ambulance. He has been giving back to his community as volunteer EMT for over 35 years.  At the beginning of his EMS career, he served as the unofficial ambulance director with several other volunteers. He was later elected to serve as the official director, a position he continues to hold and fulfill with pride, honor, and compassion.

NAEMT-Award-Winner-2

Nominated by Katheryn Benton, a state training officer in Chamberlain, South Dakota, she had the following to say about this year’s winner:

Paul is always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty and takes great pride in his profession. He has given continuous and selfless service to the citizens of Tripp County in their time of need,”

He has an excellent work attitude, which radiates to fellow employees and colleagues, and is an asset to his team, county and the community in which he proudly serves. His desire to serve without an expectation of honors or recognition clearly demonstrates his unselfish commitment to community. Paul is truly deserving of this award.

Throughout his time with Tripp County, Paul has been actively involved in fundraising to secure technological upgrades for the ambulance service. He has also planned countless training workshops and regularly partners with local health care agencies to ensure continuity in patient care. Often encountering some of the worst weather situations, such as blizzards and thunderstorms, Paul is known for his resolute and careful work on the job.

A sincere CONGRATULTIONS to Paul Schueth on this award; what an achievement! Thank you for your service.

Award recipients receive a package including: a monetary award, 3 core program registrations, and $1,000 for travel and lodging at the EMS World Expo/NAEMT Annual Meeting. The EMT of the Year will also be recognized in EMS World Magazine and NAEMT News, and at the opening ceremony at EMS Work Expo and NAEMT General Membership Meeting.

Braun Ambulances at EMS World Expo Now!

Today marks the opening of the Exhibit Hall at the 25th EMS World Expo. Being held now through September 12th at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Expo is an event we look forward to each year. We have several unique units on display, and invite you to stop out and see us in Booth #919 if you are attending.

Braun representatives, Chad Brown and Eric Wilcox,  as well as members of our dealer network, will be available in Booth #919 throughout the Expo. Official exhibit hall hours are as follows:

  • Tuesday, September 10: 11:30am – 6:00 pm
  • Wednesday, September 11: 10:45am – 3:15 pm
  • Thursday, September 12: 9:15am – 1:00 pm

Touted as the largest EMS Event in North America, the Expo is a great opportunity for us to display our ambulance models, network with existing customers, and educate potential customers on our emergency vehicles.

This year, we have brought with us a custom Express ambulance on a 2013 Chevy G-3500. Belonging to Central EMS, this 150” model features space for an Engle cooler for drug storage, inside/outside compartment access near the attendant seat, LED Whelen M-Series Lighting, and an awesome graphics package. Central EMS operates 16 Braun ambulances in their fleet, 14 ALS and 2 BLS, along with 5 wheelchair vans. The department, comprised of 84 full-time employees and 30 part-time, covers 920 square miles and responds to approximately 21,000 calls per year.

Also on display, we have another Express ambulance on a Chevy G-3500. Set for delivery to Gold Cross, this unit has several custom features to aid patient care and crew safety that are worth checking out in person. The unit also has custom front wall cabinets for equipment storage. Gold Cross manages 59 ground ambulances from 12 locations. Their staff of 340 team members responds to 63,000 calls annually.

Lastly, we have a demo unit from Penn Care, Inc.; our ambulance dealer for counties in eastern and southwestern Ohio, counties in western Pennsylvania, the state of Virginia and West Virginia. Part of our dealer demo program, this Chief XL on a G-4500 has a custom interior layout including the most requested options from customers. The cabinet design eliminates head strike areas at the CPR seat, and the model includes a Whelen LED lighting package.

Each year, the EMS World Expo is an exciting event for us as it better connects Braun with private EMS companies. Additionally, we are proud to be the continued sponsor of the NAEMT/Braun Industries EMT of the Year award. Recognized at this morning’s opening ceremony, more on the EMT of the Year award presentation is forthcoming.

If you are at the Expo, remember to stop by Booth #919 to see us!

New Braun Ambulance Dealer for Eastern & Central Pennsylvania

Glick-Fire-Logo
Glick-Dealership

Here at Braun, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Glick Fire Equipment. The newest dealership to join our network, Glick Fire Equipment will represent us in Eastern and Central Pennsylvania. The dealership will also serve as a Braun Authorized Service Center, offering a wide variety of service options to keep your emergency vehicles up and running their best.

Celebrating their 25th anniversary, Glick Fire Equipment is an established fire & EMS product and service provider in Pennsylvania. The company was initially formed as a fire apparatus dealership in 1987 by David and Sue Glick. A volunteer from a young age, Dave built a solid following of customers with his first-hand-experience, industry knowledge, and dedication to customer service. Over the years, the business steadily grew, adding new vehicle lines and enhancing their service offerings. When the couple decided to retire in 2007, they passed the business on to their three children, Jodi, Amy, and Doug. Now under the second generation of family ownership, the Glick’s continue their commitment to providing first-class products and services to fire and EMS service providers throughout the state.

When it comes to adding Braun ambulances to their already impressive lineup, Co-Owner, Amy Sweitzer, has the following to say:

“We are excited to partner with Braun to represent another quality ambulance line to the EMS regions in Central and Eastern Pennsylvania. As a third generation family-owned and operated business, everyone at the Braun facility has been professional and welcoming – it is evident they realize the importance of producing a safe and reliable ambulance. Their vision of manufacturing trucks that are “Built for Life” is consistent with our vision of representing the highest quality products. We look forward to a long-standing relationship with Braun.”

“We at Braun are extremely excited to have Glick Fire Equipment as part of our dealer network family. They are a second generation family-owned business, so there are many similarities between our organizations. They focus on providing “to your door” service that is second to none in the industry, as well as providing superior solutions to their customers through their professional sales efforts. The Eastern Pennsylvania territory will be extremely happy with the level of customer service that Glick Fire brings to the table. Their core values as an organization match ours and we truly look forward to a long standing relationship with the entire Glick organization,” says Chad Brown, VP of Sales & Marketing.

Glick Fire Equipment sales representative Chris Woolfolk will be focused on selling Braun ambulances for the dealership. Chris has 18 years of experience in the EMS industry, 5 as an EMT, and the last 13 as a paramedic. Chris has worked in a Braun ambulance himself and is excited about the opportunity to represent the brand; the quiet ride, SolidBody™ Construction, and dependability of a Braun are all important features his customers are looking for. In addition, Chris feels his customers will appreciate working with two family-owned and operated businesses to design, build, and deliver their new emergency vehicle. Chris can be reached directly by phone at (717) 380-9972 or by email at chris.woolfolk@glickfire.com.

Aside from new ambulance sales, Glick Fire Equipment is a local leader in emergency vehicle service. Their impressive Eastern PA facility located in Bird-in-Hand includes nine service bays, a fabrication area, and one of the largest in-stock parts inventory selections in the state. The dealership offers nine strategically-located road technicians to reduce travel and down time of apparatus and 24/7 emergency service. They staff factory trained technicians and have established preventative maintenance programs to maintain the health of your emergency vehicles long term. Glick Fire Equipment is a fully capable, one-stop-shop for all of your service needs and we are proud to have them as a Braun Authorized Service Center.

We Have A New Michigan Dealer

Here at Braun, we are proud to welcome Kodiak Emergency Vehicles to our dealer network. The dealership is a family-owned and operated business located in the heart of Michigan. They will carry the entire lineup of new Braun ambulances, and offer convenient door-to-door service options to fire and EMS providers throughout the state as a Braun Authorized Service Center.

Kodiak Emergency Vehicles is located in Lansing, Michigan. While the dealership is relatively new to the EMS industry, Vice President of Sales & Operations, Ahren Taszreak, is not. In partnership with his wife, the team has over 15 years of industry experience. Prior to opening Kodiak, Ahren spent time working for several leading emergency vehicle manufacturers. Identifying a void in the Michigan market for a locally based dealership focused on selling only the finest in ambulance design, the couple established Kodiak Emergency Vehicles.

It is Ahren’s accumulated knowledge from his time in the industry that helps distinguish his dealership from the competition. Having spent much of his previous positions focused on the bid specification and the build process of a unit, Ahren understands exactly what is needed from a customer the first time around to design and build the perfect ambulance. Furthermore, he knows that partnering with high quality manufacturers, like Braun, is paramount to delivering a unit that will exceed customer expectations and stand up to the rigorous demands of the road.

When asked, Ahren had the following to say about his new partnership with Braun Industries:

“Braun’s SolidBody Construction is truly unique and produces one of the finest boxes on the market.  I tell my customers one of the most enlightening things they can do in the process of purchasing a new ambulance is to tour the manufacturing facility. Getting an inside look at the manufacturer’s operation speaks volumes. With Braun, seeing the box being welded instills peace of mind for the end-user that they are making the right chose by purchasing a Braun, and that’s very important to me.”

With each new dealer we add, our Braun family grows. We are particularly excited about bringing on Kodiak Emergency Vehicles to serve our customers right next door in Michigan. Chad Brown, VP of Sales & Marketing, had the following to say about Kodiak:

“I am pleased to announce the addition of Kodiak Emergency Vehicles to the Braun Industries dealer network. Ahren and his wife, Katie, have a passion for this industry that is second to none. They not only provide sales to their customers, but also have a customer service side of their business which includes “door-to-door” service and remounting capabilities. Their focus on customer relationships and service make Kodiak Emergency Vehicles and Braun a perfect match!”

Kodiak’s sales territory includes the entire state of Michigan. Notable Braun customers in the region are: Delta Township, Meridian Fire, Grosse Ile Fire, Summerfield Township, Bloomfield Township, Inkster Fire Department, Luce Co Ambulance Service, and Bruce Romeo Fire Dept. Kodiak looks forward to the opportunity of working with Braun to expand this customer base and educate EMS providers in the region that Braun ambulances are truly “Built for Life.
